So we've come to the final 8 pan palette in the new Black Radiance Eye Appeal line that I've been reviewing. Here we have Downtown Browns...

(more after the jump)
and here we have the amount of fall-out left by one single swipe of the right eyelid shade of Downtown Browns...
And here we have more fall-out...
and more...
yea so, um saying these shadows are fall-out city is an understatement....
Here are swatches of the left column of the same order as they appear in the palette

So far the left column of this palette is proving to be just like the other 2 palettes I reviewed here and here. The shadows are virtually non-existent without the primer. They barely show up on their own and they brush right off the skin. The texture is dry and coarse and absolutely unworkable. Over primer, the shadows at least look like SOMETHING. Lots of the shades have red undertones--so much so that it seems this palette is more like Downtown Burgundies than Downtown Browns. Although they look decent over primer, working with them and blending them is nearly impossible because despite the awesomeness of the primer that is absolutely able to get the shadows to stick, the shadows themselves are such poor quality that they just go all muddy and disappear if you try to blend them at all.
The right column of the palette has the same issues.

Despite the fact that the right eyelid, crease and accent shade look different in the palette, they apply so similarly on the skin that, if not for the labels I gave the pics, I wouldn't have been able to tell them apart. Once again, we have lots of red undertones--more burgundy than brown...
Really at this point I don't have much more to say about this palette or the other 2. I'm just disappointed as hell that all 3 of these palettes were such a miss. All 3 palettes give me the chalky, fall-out, unblendable mess blues :(...thank God I saved my CVS receipt. Time to hop in the car and take these pieces of crap back...
I am now proud follower #553 of your awesome blog :)
ReplyDeletewow- I've been eyeing these in the store. Guess I'll pass. ;)
ReplyDeleteYea i was bummed they were so bad! Thank God for CVS's return policy!
Deletefollowing! love the pics!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Following back!
DeleteFirst let me say you are too funny! Just found your blog today and immediately followed you on facebook.
ReplyDeleteThat is soooo disappointing. I just bought downtown browns and have not yet gotten a chance to use it. They are the spitting image of WnW, made by the same company, and I've been loving their complexion perfection primer... so I had high hopes for these shadows.
thanks so much! i can't help being a goofball--glad peeps seem to be appreciating it. :)
DeleteYea, I had high hopes, too...but hey, maybe you got some trick up your sleeve to making them work that I lack. one thing that always fascinates me after reading about 7 zillion makeup reviews is there's always someone out there who can make a product work...
